Benington Green

Benington is a small, picturesque village set in the Hertfordshire countryside and has been described as one of the most attractive villages in the county.

It is located in north-east Hertfordshire, to the east of Stevenage, and is 35 miles north of London.

The village has a strong farming history, and much of the surrounding countryside is still agricultural.

It has a population of just over 1000, two churches, a primary school, two public houses, and is home to Benington Lordship with its well known gardens.

It also has a branch of Ernest Doe, the UK's largest agricultural, construction and groundcare machinery dealers in the UK. Their store supplies a wide range of country clothing, footwear and domestic garden machinery and they are sponsors of this website.

Astonbury Wood E-Petition

Aston Parish Council have launched an e-petition on the Herts County Council website asking the County Council to sell the woodland only to a person or organisation that clearly demonstrates that their ownership will:

1. Maximise the social and environmental benefit to the local community; encouraging greater recreational involvement and continued public use of the woodland

2. Focus on increasing the extent and quality of all the habitats and biodiversity in the woodland

3. Have the capability and resources to maintain and operate the wood on a sustainable basis

We need at least 250 signatures to be able to raise our concerns at a County Council meeting so please click on the link, register and sign the petition.

The e-petition closes on 29 January

As every signature counts, a couple should each register and sign individually.

Please share the link with as many other interested people as you can who live or work in Hertfordshire.

Benington is producing its own calendar for 2021, filled with photographs taken by local people. There were so many wonderful images to choose from, but we think this handsome chap is quite the head turner.

Congratulations to photographer Matt Robertson, and to all the photographers who sent in their favourite photos of Benington life, including children from Benington Primary School. Calendars will be available from 1st December and are A4, spiral bound wall-hung calendars on 200 gsm silk paper. They cost 10. If you are not local, P&P is an additional 1.50.
